A premier healthcare consulting firm, 5 Star Consultants has been providing tailored consultation and education to home health and hospice organizations since 2003, allowing our clients to exceed their goals and achieve success.

Our professional staff has accumulated more than a century of experience in the healthcare industry. Our consultants live throughout the country, and from extensive travel, continuing education and organizational involvement keep continually abreast of the home health and hospice industries.

All of our consultants have many years of senior management experience, yet have remained hands-on with practical understanding of operations. Most RN consultants are also a former or current state, ACHC or CHAP surveyor.

Our diagnostic coding division is manned by HCS-D Registered Nurses, many of whom are also OASIS-certified (we do not employ clerical staff for coding).

In the healthcare industry the only constant is change and 5 Star Home Healthcare Consultants is ready to assist your organization navigate through these many changes.

Principal and Founder

Sharon has been in healthcare management and administration for 30 years. For the past 25 years, she has been actively involved in the home health industry, from field nurse to Executive Director to Senior Managing Partner / Healthcare Consultant at 5 Star Healthcare Consultants. Sharon has worked in and managed certified home health, hospice, private duty, home infusion and DME as a regional and executive director. 


Principal and Founder

Since 1978 Linda Hoge has been involved in the healthcare industry. She started her career as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for an employees’ health plan in St. Louis, Missouri. During the next several years Linda held the title of CFO for hospitals in Texas and California. In 1990 she became the CFO and Regional Business Director for Charter Medical Corporation in California. She subsequently held the position of Business Consultant to a large organization providing services to home health, hospice, and private duty patients. She co-founded 5 Star Consultants in 2003.



Vicky has diversified knowledge and experience expanding over 15 years with national leaders in home health. Vicky’s successes started as a clinical field nurse and expanded to Corporate Consultant. She is a former ACHC Surveyor. Vicky is an excellent educator and is able to teach your staff with easy to learn methods. She resides in Florida.

Melissa Abbott


Melissa is a registered nurse with experience in a variety of health care settings with the majority of her nursing experience in home health care and hospice where she was a clinician working in the field and then later became an administrator of a hospital based home health and hospice agency. In 2017, she joined 5 Star Consultants as a home care and lead hospice consultant. Melissa has an expertise in identifying issues, solving problems and implementing action plans that are successful.

She also has a passion for individual coaching, team building and leadership development. Abbott has been a part of advocacy work for home health and hospice within her home state of Iowa as well as nationally.


Cindy Osborne

Cindy Osborne has an extensive background in multiple areas of home health. Twenty-four years ago, she began her career as a field clinician for a major urban hospital based home health company. Moving quickly into clinical management, she developed her management skills supervising a large multi-discipline team of clinicians for the same agency. After several years, the opportunity arose to move into a quality improvement role. This was a position that allowed Cindy to expand her skills into Coding and OASIS certifications, and she educated all staff members on OASIS and the importance of accuracy in all areas of documentation. Cindy joined 5 Star Consultants in 2015 as a Coding Manager. She enjoys working with clients and the 5 Star Coding team, helping to ensure all are successful in their careers and to maintain a level of excellence in the industry.

In the past, Cindy also has worked with the Missouri Alliance for Home Care on the development of the MAHC10 Fall Risk Assessment tool and was a member of the Missouri Alliance for Home Care Conference Planning Committee.


Why We Do What We Do

With many years in healthcare management, Sharon Litwin and Linda Hoge endured countless occasions when outside consultants would evaluate operations and make recommendations based on boilerplate templates. Often these consultants had no experience in the home health or hospice industry, but relied on standardized formulas.

When we formed 5 Star Consultants in 2003, we were determined to approach each client as unique. We take into consideration that everyone has a reason for doing things a certain way, and make our recommendations for improvement based on these reasons. While we do have tools that we have developed to assist our clients, we customize according to each client’s needs.

While using a “cookie-cutter” approach might save us time and effort, we feel that individual clients’ needs are more important.

And that’s why we do what we do.
